Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Registration

City of Irving

Pet registration guidelines were established to help reduce the number of lost pets held at the Irving Animal Shelter by ensuring a quick return to their owners.  A reduced fee is offered to those who microchip and/or have their pets altered.

All dogs and cats over the age of 4 months must be registered.  For a registration application, visit the Irving Animal Shelter (100 N. Briary Road, Irving, Texas, 75038) or download the form online at www.petdata.com . A current rabies vaccination certificate issued by any Texas veterinarian is required for registration.

When will I need to register my pet?

Residents of Irving, Texas will need to register their pets beginning June 1, 2008.

How do I register my pet?

Residents can register their pets online at www.petdata.com or can visit Irving Animal Services (100 N. Briary Road) from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Participating area veterinarain offices will provide self-addressed envelopes for voluntary mail-in registration.  Residents should mail a copy of a current rabies certificate, microchip information (if applicable) along with the appropriate fee in the self-addressed envelope.

What pets must be registered?

Dogs and cats ages 4 months and older need to be registered annually.

What are the fees?

The fees for registering each companion animal are:

  • $5 - Microchipped Pet
  • $10 - Non-microchipped; spayed or neutered
  • $15 - Non-microchipped; not spayed or neutered

How will I get my pet's registration tag?

Those who register their pets online or by mail will receive tags through the mail by Petdata.

Those who register their pets in person at Irving Animal Services will be provided tags at the time of registration.

How often will I have to register my pet?

Pets will need to be registered annually.

**In response to public input regarding pet registration, the city implemented changes to the guidelines November 1, 2008:

Three-year registration cycle available if pet has three-year rabies vaccination.

NOTE: The Cat Hospital of Las Colinas uses a one-year PureVax Rabies vaccine. Dr Hague has found this to be the safest vaccine on the market. There is an agent that exists in the three-year vaccine that could potentially cause problems in cats. Therefore, an annual rabies vaccine is recommended for all felines.

The fees are the same for both one and three-year registration.

Residents 65 years of age and older and/or disabled residents must register their pets, but are exempt from registration fees.

How can I pay?

Residents may pay online at www.petdata.com or in person at Irving Animal Services.
